Moein Yazdani, 18, of Armley, Leeds and Charles Gaunt, 17, of Farnley, Leeds, had been in a car travelling towards Leeds on Stanningley Road when their car was in a collision with another car. The pair were pronounced dead at the scene.
Fulneck School principal Trevor Kernohan said: "Charles and Moein were two fine young men on the threshold of their adult lives.
"They were both active members of the sixth form committee and played a full part in the life of the school.
"Both students were in the process of applying for university courses and we would have anticipated them achieving well in their A-level exams next summer.

i cant believe you and charles have gone! even though we werent as close after i left i didnt stop loving you! your such a great guy and clever and everyting else! when i foound out there was nothing else i could do xceppt cry, its awful how unfair and tragic life can be at times, knowing you and charles are angels in heaven make me happier. love you miss you xxxxxxx
